FHR Devices (Frontal Head Restraints) are used in almost every form of motorsport. They are compulsory in most motor racing events worldwide due to the life-saving benefits they provide. The HANS device is used in NASCAR, F1, NHRA, IHRA, USAC, Rally, Drag Racing, Drifting, WOO, Champ Car, Sprint car and most forms or Autograss, Stock Car Racing and oval racing worldwide. It has been proven that many drivers who have tragically lost their lives due to impacts in motorsport would have been saved if they had been wearing a FHR device.
The purpose of the device is to stop the head from whipping forward in a crash, without otherwise restricting movement of the neck. In a crash, an unprotected body is decelerated by the seatbelt with the head maintaining velocity until it is decelerated by the neck. The Simpson Hybrid device maintains the relative position of the head to the body, with the device transferring energy to the much stronger chest, torso, shoulder, seatbelts, and seat as the head is decelerated.
Simpson Hybrid devices are SFI approved Head and Neck Restraint on the market that protect during front and offset impacts. Designed for easily exiting the car without the danger of getting hung up on other gear, the device sits on your back/shoulders, not over the chest or collarbone as with the old HANS-type devices. Plus, they provide you with maximum comfort and maneuverability.
An evolution of the Hybrid Pro Rage, the new Hybrid Sport device improves upon the design and technology which promises the racer an improved product, at the same price range as the old model. The Hybrid Sport is lighter, weighing in at 20% less for the large, including hardware; and the DuPont carbon/polymer construction is sleek, modern and appealing with defined wings for better harness containment. The sliding tethers and multi-tether system enhances the side to side range of movement and field of vision. The Hybrid Sport in Child and Youth sizes is SFI 38.1 certified.
The Hybrid Sport is supplied ready to fit to your existing FIA Hans posts or can be specified with optional M61 quick release tethers / anchors. These M61 anchors are fitted in place of your original Hans posts (offered at an additional cost).
HANS - Post Anchor - These tethers allow the driver to use the Hybrid device with helmets that have standard fitment HANS anchors already fitted (or the correct approval to retro-fit anchors). Approved for helmets FIA 8858-2002 / FIA 8858-2010 standard or higher.
M61 - Quick Release - These tethers allow the driver to release the restraint by a simple pull on the cord attached to the helmet. Approved for helmets FIA 8858-2010 standard or higher. Ideal safety addition for motorsports where the risk of rolling a vehicle is higher or in motorsports such as Rallying where the helmet may be taken on and off more frequently (i.e. between stages).
